The Project “Human rights and independent living in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is a partnership project between Centre for Independent Living “Threshold” from Helsinki in Finland and two partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina: Information Centre for Persons with Disability “Lotos” in Tuzla and Humanitarian organization “Partner” from Banja Luka. The Project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Finland. The main aim of this project is to strengthen the local disability movement in BiH. Through the empowerment of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and building capacities of organizations of persons with disabilities, current situation of disabled people can be improved and the society influenced.

 

The project has 3 dimensions connected to each other. They are:

  1. Human Rights
  2. Developing Independent Living centres
  3. Capacity building of disability movement

 

Human rights area is committed to promotion of the UN convention of the rights of disabled people through organization of different activities like its presentation to persons with disabilities and wider community and monitoring of its implementation.

 

Developing Independent Living centres area is committed to promotion of the principles of independent living of persons with disabilities and development of such centres in our political, economic and social environment.

 

Capacity building of disability movement area will be focused at organization of different educative events (trainings and workshops) at which representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities will be trained and educated in topics important for running modern non governmental organization and tools which will help them to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities in the most efficient way.
